In case you hadn’t heard, Caddy’s on the Beach is under new ownership, Irish ownership, those most sociable of people who excel at creating memorable bar/restaurant experiences.

The new owners are no strangers to the area in that they have successfully brought the MacDinton and Yard of Ale chains to both St. Petersburg and Tampa, where the combination of quality food and drink in a lively, Irish ambiance has proven hugely popular. Having bought the Caddy’s on Sunset Beach just last year, however, they quickly recognized that a local gem like Caddy’s, as both Treasure Island natives and savvy visitors agree, is a formula you don’t mess with, just enhance. Thus, they made it a priority that any tweaks or refinements should preserve the unique vibe of this local favorite destination. Following repairs to a building which has been hopping for generations and was ready for a little sprucing up, the regulars have come flooding back to enjoy what made this place special for generations; the ‘chill’ Island-Time atmosphere, the delicious menu options served right on the beach, and the ‘alcohol allowed’ beach privilege which only Caddy’s can offer in this locality. Since the new management place strong emphasis on prompt and friendly service, and now offer music twice daily in-season plus twelve draft beer choices in its three in-house bars, it’s clear that the new, improved Caddy’s has lost none of its charm but polished up way more than the floorboards in an ownership switch-out that has unquestionably been a win-win.

With a pretty rare across-the-board appeal, Caddy’s attracts couples of all ages, family groups and young singles, and the flip-switch for ‘relax’ kicks in fast and sticks longer than the sand between your toes. There are complementary beach chairs on offer and complementary – with a minimum purchase – cabanas for those wanting to chill with extra elbow room. Customers can avail of the free island hopper as an alternative to the paid parking, carpooled or otherwise, which is available onsite. All in all, COTB is a re-newed local treasure well worth checking out again (and again), if you haven’t visited for a while.

Wonderful! $5.00 parking and that again as a credit in the bar/ restaurant. Tip the cabana person and get lounge chairs at ocean side and bring drinks there. Food is priced fairly ( don’t understand the $$ pricing). Good service, free band, what more can u ask 4? Kim S. St Petersburg, FL

My friends and I came here on a Friday afternoon and we had a BLAST!! The beach was beautiful, the water was warm and the drinks were stiff!! I will never forget this beach and I can’t wait to come back!! Brianna B. San Francisco, CA

I like to come here and sit on the upper deck and watch the world go by. No food is allowed upstairs, which makes it relatively bug & bird free. No kids allowed upstairs either and that’s always a plus for me. I think the service is better up there too. Drinks are plentiful and priced reasonably. I think we had 4 coronas, 3 margaritas, a rum runner & a strawberry daiquiri for $50, including the tip.

I’ve never had the food, but it smells good! Maybe I’ll make it early enough to try the breakfast someday. Mary R. Tampa, FL

Caddy’s is THE spot for breakfast on the beach.  Our group ordered a western omelet (great!), the scallop-cake-eggs-benedict (excellent!  and a steal at $12.  Totally unique so had to order, and was well worth it), the corned beef hash (good but just know that it’s corned beef and potatoes, not regular corned beef hash), a couple bloody mary’s and a couple mimosas (all good). Joe S. Tampa, FL

Unbeatable location, they have a private beach so you can buy their beers and walk 70 feet to the water.  Seems like it would be a great spot for sunset too.  Note that they charge $5 per car for parking, but will take it off your bill at the restaurant.  And also note you can’t bring coolers to their beach, but the bar is right there with reasonably priced drinks.  Can’t ask for much more.  Ryan M. Arlington, VA

It sits directly on the beach. I mean you can sit at a table with your toes in the sand…how much better can it get? Food is good. Bands are usually good too. A very enjoyable time at a beautiful beach. Robin L. Clearwater, FL
